We currently hold contracts with these Integrated Care Boards (ICB) and offer NHS-funded fertility treatment in line with NICE guidelines.
How to Access NHS-Funded Fertility Treatment
NHS funding for fertility treatment is available to those who meet the eligibility criteria set by your local Integrated Care Board (ICB). Your ICB is based on the location of your GP rather than your home address.
If your GP is within an ICB that contracts with Herts & Essex Fertility Centre, you may be referred to us for NHS-funded fertility treatment.
Your GP or hospital consultant will assess your eligibility, based on physical assessment, blood tests, ultrasound scan, sperm test and medical history. If eligible, you will be provided with a choice of clinics for your treatment.
If you selected Herts and Essex Fertility Centre, a referral will be made to us (usually electronically so received immediately). You will be contacted to book a consultation appointment, usually available within 2-3 weeks. Your fertility treatment can begin within 6 weeks of receipt of the referral.
To check if your GP practice is included in your ICB, please click on the respective ICB map above.

How to Apply for IVF on the NHS
Your referral will be sent to us via your GP/referring consultant at a hospital, and we firstly need to process it to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.
We will contact you to book a consultation appointment, usually within 2-4 weeks from when we received your referral.
During the consultation, the consultant will:
- Discuss your results
- Review your medical history and any previous tests
- Answer your questions
- Provide a personalised treatment plan designed to maximise your chance of success
You will meet with one of our Fertility Nurse Coordinators who will discuss your treatment/medication protocol, help you sign the consent forms to the treatment you are having and book your treatment dates in using your next menstrual cycle.
You will be asked to contact us on day 1 when your menstrual cycle has begun to bring you in for a baseline scan to start your fertility medication, which will last for approximately 2 weeks. You will then undertake your egg retrieval procedure under sedation. A fresh embryo transfer will happen either 3 or 5 days after the egg collection.
