Ovulation Induction
IVF is a type of fertility treatment where the eggs are removed from the ovaries and fertilised by sperm in a dish in the laboratory.
What is Ovulation Induction?
Ovulation Induction is a medical treatment aimed at stimulating the ovaries to release eggs, thereby enhancing the chances of natural conception. This is particularly beneficial for women who do not ovulate regularly due to hormonal imbalances or conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
When is it recommended?
Ovulation Induction is typically recommended for women who:
- Have irregular or absent menstrual cycles
- Have been diagnosed with conditions like PCOS
- Experience unexplained infertility where ovulation issues are suspected
By inducing ovulation, we aim to restore regular menstrual cycles and improve the likelihood of conception.
How can I book a cycle of Ovulation Induction?
To begin your journey with Ovulation Induction at our clinic, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our fertility specialists. During this appointment, we will assess your medical history, perform necessary evaluations, and discuss the most suitable treatment plan for you.
The Treatment Process for Ovulation Induction:
- Starting Treatment. Contact the clinic on the first day of your period by calling us (if this is over the weekend then call on Monday). We will then provide instructions regarding medication and book a scan appointment for you.
- Medication. You will usually be instructed to commence a prescribed medication from day 2 to day 6 of your cycle.
- Ultrasound scan: This scan will assess both the thickness of the lining of your womb and the follicles on your ovaries. Depending on the findings, you may or may not need a further scan to assess.
- Trigger Injection/ovulation testing: If there are between 1 and 3 follicles that have grown to the correct size, we will give you an injection to ‘trigger’ ovulation. You will then be given a window in which to have intercourse to give the best chance of achieving a pregnancy. If the follicle(s) on your ovary have not yet reached the required size we may ask for you to test for your LH surge using an ovulation kit. We will then usually book you for a further monitoring scan with a view of giving the trigger injection at this scan assuming you have not already had your LH surge.
Throughout the Ovulation Induction process, our dedicated team will provide continuous support and guidance, closely monitoring your progress to maximise the chances of a successful outcome.
