Gemma dreamed of becoming a paramedic, but because of a brain tumour, she had to put that to one side and focus on health. She started working for the NHS in 2003 and joined initially as a Sterile Services Technician before she moved into theatres as a support worker specialising in plastics and burns, where she learnt about Operating Department Practitioners (ODP’s) and subsequently completed her ODP training in 2012. This experience gave her the skills and knowledge required for her current role. She is a reliable and approachable person and carries out her duties in a professional manner. On a personal level, she has a good sense of humour and enjoys taking her two dogs out on long walks, watching sports, playing rugby, going to the gym, DIY, gardening, cooking on the BBQ and being by the sea.
